A Farm with Deep Roots in Lee, New Hampshire

We are Tina Fottler Sawtelle and Erick Sawtelle. Pinewoods Yankee Farm is our longtime home-the place we raised our family and a place shaped by years of hard work, rebuilt with love, and tended with the kind of care that only comes from living your whole life on the land. What began decades ago in the 1980’s as a working farm has evolved into not only a cow-calf grass fed beef operation but also an intentional flower farm and design studio where seasonal beauty, community, and storytelling come together.

A Life’s Work with Cattle and Flowers

Erick manages the grass-fed Belted Galloway Beef Herd, doing field crop work, custom field work for other farms and landowners, as well as managing the composted cow manure compost operation. Tina, in addition to helping with the beef herd and field work, is a New Hampshire Flower Farmer-Florist and teacher who has spent more than thirty years growing and designing with New Hampshire flowers. Her work has been grounded in relationships with the community and the seasons. She styles with local flowers thoughtfully and creatively. Over the years, Tina’s floral work has taken many forms: weddings, everyday bouquets, workshops, community education, and mentoring new farmer florists. Today she focuses on a scaled-back sustainable rhythm-one that allows her to continue creating, teaching, and contributing to the statewide flower movement while honoring the pace of the farm and family.

Rebuilding, Renewing, and Moving Forward

After a devastating farmhouse fire, Tina and Erick have rebuilt their home and are working on redesigning the flower gardens from the ground up. That experience reshaped everything: their work, their priorities, and their sense of legacy. The gardens will move forward from fields of commercial growing rows to garden designs that will be both beautiful and useful; cutting beds, micro-teaching spaces, and a place for people to learn about local flowers. Tina’s work extends beyond the farm, founding the NH Cut Flowers and Designers group, a thriving statewide community of cut flower growers and designers. She also chairs the NH Farm Bureau Cut Flower Committee, building local flower visibility, collaboration, and education for NH’s cut flower sector. This advocacy and community building is a central part of her mission moving forward. Erick serves on many Agricultural Advocacy groups, as well as being very active in Strafford County Farm Bureau, NH Farm Bureau, Town of Lee Agricultural Commission, and NH SPACE, advocating for current use and open space preservation for agriculture. He is very active in legislative efforts on behalf of agriculture in NH.
